I‘d argue, that’s what one does when comparing equipment. But as soon as one has found the right equipment, the goal is still enjoying the music.
Exceptions are of course the kind of audiophile who constantly need newer and better equipment and especially the kind of audiophiles who buy „audiophile network switches“ so the bits of their tidal subscription come through „cleaner“.
Most of us just want to get the most out of our favourite songs.
Please tell me this is not real. I actually had one at a store trying to sell me an expensive MIDI cable because "the sound quality was better"
Nop. Very real. There’s a LinusTechTips video about them from a few years ago. Some people just love to buy snakeoil
Audiophile is pretty big , it's not like it goes listens to whatever skull headphone or a 50k audio system. I think if you listen to loud music then having a 5.1 to 7.2 system is reasonable and audio enthusiasty but not full audiophile.
If all you do is listening to music then a decent stereo system is all anyone could ever need.
5.1 is surround sound, only really good for movies (although there, surround is worth a lot for immersiveness)
The kind of audiophile that thinks vibrations on a fiber cable are going to distort sound is never going to be happy with the equipment.
I love that someone did a test years ago where they had audiophiles listen to music using different cables that got increasingly more expensive.
Turns out they couldn't tell the difference between a ridiculously expensive Monster cable and a wire coat hanger.
Thats just snake oil. Actual audio enjoyer's know a speaker wire doesn't make 1 damn lick of difference unless the shielding is shit and you live under power lines.
See: clothes hanger used as speaker wire = 0 difference.
However, things like ADC and DACs do make a difference , expensive as they are. Transparency and depth are a thing , a lot of people have no clue because they never have heard a good system though.
That said, my 2010 apogee DAC ADC is awesome for the price. No need to upgrade.
