Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

This is what Europe should propose to Putin. Russia will withdraw from all land it seized from Ukraine after the 2022 invasion. NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance. Ukraine and Canada would be permitted to join but not the US. All sanctions against Russia will be lifted. Russia will not be required to pay reparations. If Putin doesn't accept the proposal, the UK and France would send troops to Ukraine.
Here's my plan:
Get Trump out of office, get an American president that isn't AIPAC. Treat Putin in Russia the same as we just did Venezuela and Iran.
Putin gets nothing forever. (As he's dead). Democracy stops collapsing world wide due to his influence over insecure billionaires. US gets to keep breaking bad. But in a way that actually benefits the world instead of just the Epstein class.
Russia is much more powerful than Venezuela or Iran.
I doubt they ever where. But certainly not anymore. There is doubt their nuclear arsenal even works after decades of neglect.
Would any country take that risk?
Yeah, that is a very risky bluff to call.
It's clear that Russia is not nearly as powerful as anyone thought, and there's good reason to believe their nuclear arsenal is either severely neglected or was mostly bluff to begin with, but you can't be sure. And any war on Russian soil is going to be hard no matter what.
Do kick Russia out of Ukraine; that's an unjustifiable war of conquest that needs to be reverted. But make it clear that you won't set foot in Russia and don't pose a threat to Russia itself. That way you give Putin no excuse to go nuclear, and no reason for the Russian military to obey him if he does.
That's the reason in my proposal only the UK and France will enter the war if Putin rejects it. If many countries will enter the war, Putin would say he is being overwhelmed and has to go nuclear.
That is certainly a take on the situation.
Not after losing half a million citizens and untold amounts of Military equipment in the Ukraine. Russia is now literally weaker than they've ever been, and Trump has spent that whole decline sucking Putins Dick behind closed Doors instead of cutting it off.
Putin's only powerful because you fall for that narrative. He's a weak man, with weak ideas, in a weak body, riddled with pancreatic cancer.
Killing him now would be easier than ever, and every leader in the world is a big ass pussy about it because they believe social media over reality. When social media has been almost completely controlled by Russian intelligence for the last decade.
Putins a weak bitch that could be snuffed out in a moment the same as the Ayatolla. The only reason you think he's untouchable is because you believe the propaganda he's been putting out instead of the cold facts:
His economy is weak. His Military is weak. He is weak.
Letting him live out of the fear he's a bigger monster than that is how he's stayed alive this long. And it's amazing to me our world leaders are such big pussies to fall for it. Which explains why Trump has so easily grabbed them all.
All the things you say are true.
But Russia still has nukes.
And before anybody starts to make noise about how those are in poor condition. By estimate they have 1500-1700 warheads and 1000-2000 short range nukes. Even if only 1% of those would work and we think on the low end of the estimate it would still be enough for 25 nuclear detonations, wich is 25 more than Iran and Venezuela combined.
Completely agree about the nukes. And I think that's a good point to bring up.
Imo, and this is completely just my own perspective: We're currently already on a course for nukes likely being used again. If not by Russia, then by the US or Israel in relation to the war in Iran.
So when it comes to an active nuclear threat, I feel we're already there. And since we are, it then becomes better to eliminate anyone willing to use nukes than it is to wait until they're all old enough to not care if they do.
Imo, Putin becomes far more of a nuclear threat as he ages. The next best time to eliminate that threat was yesterday. Otherwise we may not get a chance at all, as he'll just use them anyway.
That's risky to attempt to assassinate Putin. What if the attempt fails?
Great question. Putin is like Trump. He acts like he's under constant threat. So if an attempt on his life fails, it just becomes another propaganda point about Russians being under threat of the West. Something that most of them are now completely sick of hearing. So it would be a piece of news immediately doubted as real, as it's distributed through the same propaganda channels as his actual propaganda.
Worst thing: Putin would retaliate. But he currently has no army or soldiers to do so. So he'd threaten nukes as he already has, and immediately be ignored as he always is.
If the US tried to kill Putin, and failed, he'd cry wolf to an uncaring world that's heard him say the same for decades. His complaints will fall on deaf ears until the next attempt is successful.
So... Give him all he wants without any consequences?
He'd not get the territories.
Crimea is Ukraine, let alone the rest of occupied territories. It's not just some "land" - despite everything there are Ukrainian people living there.
Russia keeping land annexed by brute force will not achieve anything and only add billions upon billions of debt to rebuild and resettle what was eradicated.
Under my plan Putin doesn't get all he wants. He will be getting far less territory than he wants.
Except he's not in it for territories.
Also you got to remember all previous attempts to pacify an aggressor, starting from a nice chap by the name of Neville.
Territory with its resources is his primary reason for wanting Ukraine. My proposal doesn't appease Putin. He will have to cede all territory he seized after the 2022 invasion.
Where did this conclusion come from?
Putin has said he wants the Donbas region.
You do realize that four Ukrainian regions were written into Russian law and they are not Do bass?
This supports my view that Putin wants land. The reason is Ukraine's natural resources. Ukraine is considered the breadbasket of Europe.
Yeah but without compensation / reparations ? It’s absolutely a bad deal for the victims.
You have to have a deal that Putin might accept. Putin will certainly reject a deal which requires reparations.
I don’t think any one has to have a deal that they themselves cannot accept… why would the Zelensky dude and our fellow Ukrainians have to settle? They seem like a pretty brutal and opinionated bunch…
No one « have to » until they are all eating dirt really.
Ukraine will accept my proposal because it would end a war which is killing its people and which it might not win. The problem is whether Putin will accept the proposal.
You sound like a Russian sympathiser.
What? I gave a solution to ending the war in which Russia would gain much less land than Putin wants.
Question is, why would Putin accept that? NATO already seems to be on the way out, he already holds more territory than in 2022, and with the current oil prices they’re making a bunch of money, and EU doesn’t have the fiscal space to help Ukraine or to justify a direct intervention
Putin might not accept it. Then Britain and France have to join the war and force an outcome.
So, appeasement spiced with a paper tiger's threat? This "proposal" is insulting.
The UK and France are not paper tigers. They would not only provide ground but also air and naval forces. The RAF and French air force could gain air superiority.
Put something in that Putin can use to say Ukraine has been denazified, and it's a deal that he should logically take.
But Ukraine will also insist on getting their children back. What is extremely reasonable. And I have no idea how logical Putin is nowadays.
You can make a cease-fire in that format, but not a peace agreement.
Under my proposal, there has to be a peace agreement since Russia will have to leave the land it seized after the 2022 invasion. However, if Ukraine agrees to a ceasefire and gives Russia the land it has already seized, that's fine.
So kind of you
Any suggestion of a world war can only come from a lunatic.
I am not suggesting a world war, but it might be inevitable. Britain and France experiencing the terrible loss of lives during World War I thought they could bring peace by giving Hitler the Sudetenland. It didn't work.
Of course a fucking world war is not inevitable. Why are libtards so focused on the apocalypse.
If they wrapped that in the right spin it might just give Putin enough wiggle room to back down without losing his head
Yes, Europe should get China involved. Peace would be good for trade between China and Europe, which includes Ukraine.
You're getting slammed for this but I think it's a fairly pragmatic proposal. It's hard for many to accept solutions that don't feel "fair" but maybe it's better to stop the destruction.
