An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I know it's weird but that little bit of promo swag had been on my keychain across 4 cars and now my keys are weirdly light. It makes me kind of sad.

Edit: I knew y'all would understand. I'm going to try the epoxy idea on my next day off. Your responses have turned a crummy day into a great one.

Hi, woman engineer here, so if I'm not allowed to post please delete.

That won't take a weld, but the tab could be drilled and then a steel pin (preferably knurled) put in and braised/soldered in place ... or even just epoxied. Then it would be stronger than new :-)

Why would you not be allowed to post?

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 52 points 3 days ago

She's not dull.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 3 days ago (8 children)

Because this is the "Dull Men's Club", and I'm accustomed to being shut down in men's spaces.

I'm bestowing an honorary man pass to you and any other women reading that want to participate in conversations that men are trying to gatekeep. It is valid in perpetuity and any objections to it renders the complainants own man pass invalid.

Thank you for making me laugh :-D

There was an attempt at a gender-neutral community name (“dullsters” club) but this one has been more successful. I’ve only seen very open attitudes in here though. I don’t believe it’s intended to be a men’s space.

Good to know :-)

I think we're too dull to be misogynistical.

My philosophy is that on the internet, everybody's a quantum superposition of men and women. You can be whichever you want at any time as far as it matters to me. If you want to be one of the guys here, you're welcome to be in my opinion.

Expertise is expertise and should be welcomed no matter what one's gender might be.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm not really into the idea of being "one of the guys", but thank you ... when I see something that can be fixed, I want to fix it.

Not everyone feels the same way as you, unfortunately

[–] cecilkorik@piefed.ca 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Understood, you can be whoever you want to be and call yourself whatever you want is my point. All I'm saying is I don't put much stock in the idea that gender really matters here. Hopefully I didn't come across as intending to say anything offensive.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago

Not at all :-)

[–] vodka@feddit.org 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It takes a real man to be a dull woman in a dull men's club. Or something like that

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is this the part where I crank my hog?

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

AROOOOO! You can be a dull man! You can be one of the boys! You can be one of the girlies! You can be whomever you want if you feel comfortable being that way and no one is being negatively affected!

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

Heh, thank you!

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah who cares, I think it's more about the theme, not the gender.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

Didn't know when I replied, but I do now ;-)

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's perfectly fine as long as you're dull. However I also created !dullsters@dullsters.net as a second channel.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

Then I will bow out, since I'm pretty sure I'm not dull enough :-P
