The surplus filled the pockets of party elites. Don't fool yourself. ML states were barely even socialist to begin with. They were basically just state capitalist states with a thin layer of red coating. The party didn't care about the worker. The party only cared about it's own hold on power and loyalty of it's subjects.
And I have read Marx and it is quite a huge leap from Marx to whatever MLs are trying to do.
"Best workers rights in history were in ML states." sounds about as credible as if Trump would say it himself.
Last time I checked Soviet workers had no striking rights against mismanagement by party elites and the SU first legalized it in 1989. Also guess what happens if you strike in China or North Korea, where workers also have virtually no say.

For you pseudo-historical knowledge is when people disagree with the official position of your favorite corrupt dictatorship. As if dictatorships are ever honest, doesn't matter if they are supposedly socialist or right wing.
