Doesn't an incumbent party typically see an increase during wars at the polls?
This war seems so unpopular though, it's hard to imagine that happening. But it wouldn't surprise me if that had been the goal. The guy is such an unrestrained hot head that he was bound to inevitably blow his foot off with a bazooka.
