They came to the americas and somehow magically managed to not genocide all the people. Clearly superior to the other europeans or simply not yet infected by the capitalist mind virus.
I get my history through manga, strictly manga, so Vinland Saga has taught me that you're wrong and the Vikings would have done so had they not been so embroiled in their own world.
I'm kidding about getting my history through manga. I don't think Vikings would have behaved any differently from the other white people who came to the Americas, though. Just like Native Americans would have absolutely destroyed the white immigrants if they had equivalent firepower before their arrival.
We like to paint these groups as better because our current circumstances are shit, but the reality is they're just more shadows on the wall.
I guess it depends on if we are talking pre christianity vikings or post. Because pre in particular are pretty good at integration. Pretty much to the point they are subsumed. Post on the other hand? Probably more genocide.

They had a chattel slave economy and practiced human sacrifice. They didn't genocide the Skraelings because the Skraelings got them first.... Probably because they were being Viking dicks.
I don't really care to find the study but we actually do know the Viking invasion of Scotland resulted in a genocide of the Picts that were living in the Hebrides.
There's argument about whether the Vikings are entirely responsible for the destruction of larger Pictish culture but the proof is pretty undeniable that it happened in the Hebrides.
