Rules

While we are not an official Mozilla community, we have adopted the Mozilla Community Participation Guidelines as far as it can be applied to a bin.

Rules

  1. Always be civil and respectful
Don't be toxic, hostile, or a troll, especially towards Mozilla employees. This includes gratuitous use of profanity.

  2. Don't be a bigot
No form of bigotry will be tolerated.

  3. Don't post security compromising suggestions
If you do, include an obvious and clear warning.

  4. Don't post conspiracy theories
Especially ones about nefarious intentions or funding. If you're concerned: Ask. Please don’t fuel conspiracy thinking here. Don’t try to spread FUD, especially against reliable privacy-enhancing software. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Show credible sources.

  5. Don't accuse others of shilling
Send honest concerns to the moderators and/or admins, and we will investigate.

  6. Do not remove your help posts after they receive replies
Half the point of asking questions in a public sub is so that everyone can benefit from the answers—which is impossible if you go deleting everything behind yourself once you've gotten yours.

I'm really happy to see a piece of news about "... your companion for ..." and it not being about yet another soulless LLM chatbot.

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah thats what I initially assumed it was which is pretty sad

[–] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it not? I'm so jaded that when I see a company trot out anything cute, squishy, or colorful (be it a logo, character, or whatever), I assume it's another slopbot.

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Actually went and read the thing to be sure but yeah it's just like a branding/mascot thingy, not a bot

[–] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Interesting. What's the over/under on when they hook it up to a bot tho?

[–] XLE@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It seems unlikely. The mascot has been around for a while, and it's usually in notifications.

To paraphrase a popular tech YouTuber, Kit is just trying to help.

They literally designed it without a mouth to illustrate it isnt supposed to talk so the answer is very low chance
