Hello. I currently don't know of a place that tolerates me speaking. Some explicit reasons I'm given are that I'm male-homosexual, and that I'm ethnically/racially indeterminate/intolerated. It's common for people to be violent toward me. I'm wondering if I'm permitted to speak here? (My profile has some more information that may be triggering.)

Everyone is permitted to speak; however, none are entirely free from the consequences of said speech. Being gay, and being an ethnic minority, is not a problem on Lemmy (most places).

If you do things that bother people, you could be blocked by other users or banned from communities/instances by mods/admins. If you do things that bother the people who run your instance, they can ban you from the instance, which effectively kills your account. You can protect yourself from this by running your own instance. The issue here is, if your instance offends another instance admin, they can de-federate your instance (members your instance and theirs cannot see one another's posts, comments, or communities). Generally they would report you to your instance first, but if they see your instance is just you, they would likely go straight to de-federating you.

This community (Just Post) and the various "Casual Conversation" communities are a good place to do just that. Also, there are a ton of LGBTQ+ communities and users on Lemmy.

I'm ethnically Bahanna, with a side of indeterminacy.
