but I never took into account the incompetence of Iran’s new despot

I dunno if this is incompetence, its rather just the modus operandi of the regime.
They killed thousands or possibly tens of thousands just for protesting.

When this will be over - and I overwhelmingly doubt USA/Israel/etc will lead to the fall of the Islamic regime - they will want to ensure that there is no threat to the regime. Failed revolutions are often followed by cleansings (read: mass killings and more violent oppression).
Its going to be so bad and people are going to go back to largely ignoring it, like they did in the decades prior.

USA is too chaotic to say long term, but Israel in particular probably doesn't care who is in charge as long as they can keep the fighting going and expanding their border.

I admit, I don't know enough about Israel's internal politics to make a good judgement on that - but to me it feels like Israel either wouldn't be so emboldened or would pretty much stop their actions if USA were to back off. Or at most only launch rockets every now and then.

Assuming USA or Israel wants to end the Islamic regimes. They usually love, actively prefer Islamic regimes, as long as they are weak and submissive to them.

Agreed. Only worded it like that so I didn't start writing text-walls again about Israel/USA's actual interests in this conflict. Neither of any of those involved care about the wellbeing/freedom of the Iranian people.

Those two want a failed state and a civil war that would kill millions

[–] lath@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If the war kills their people and they kill their people, how many people will be left after and will their dumbass state even still exist without any people to rule over?

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can kill tens of thousands but the overall population is still many many millions. Imagine killing 1%, hundred thousands, and it would still not change much. These scale are just absurd.
