When women riders and drivers told us they wanted more control over how they ride and earn, we listened. That feedback led to Women Preferences, features designed to give women the choice to ride with other women. Since our first pilots last summer, we’ve heard just how much that choice matters—from feeling more comfortable in the back seat to more confident behind the wheel.

So does this mean there is going to gender verification to go along with age verification?

Seems like something that would happen in this timeline.

Here we go, with a whole bunch more trans controversy.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yep, basically where I was going with this.

I'd say "don't give Republicans any ideas" but they're not reading Lemmy comments so you're good

No because the presumption is that you will provide ID to your employer and they will go by whatever is on the ID when assigning rides.

What employer? Uber drivers are independent contractors.

I mean when you sign up to being a driver you have to give out your information so that they can verify you are qualified so they already have that covered

Well that too but I was thinking of the riders. I’m assuming only women can request women drivers.

Or is this just a shit to uber being all women drivers?

Women want women driver because of safety. Men want women drivers because men.

Asking "what gender do you identify as?" isn't tyranny and does not involve uploading your ID. Pretty much most services I know ask "what is your gender?"

Plus, I've never used a ride share before but if you say as a client "I identify as a woman", and a female driver shows up to pickup another 'female' client and it's obviously a group of dudes, couldn't she flag them as false information?

Also not trying to trans shame, I'm literally married to a trans person.

It's posible that you would just have to check a box but I guess we'll see, I hope that's true bcs privacy but I can see why they would go a step beyond
