Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

He doesn't have the cult of personality that Trump has. This means Republicans can and will openly challenge him which could destabilize the party.

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He'll have the same crutches and props in the media as trump, but he has a functional brain and theil guiding him. He's worse.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

He's dangerous, all right, but the GOP Nazis have built their power on the backs of Trump's cult. Losing them would be a huge blow they would have to work hard to recover from.

I never have understood this take. Vance has a lot of evil in him but Trump's strength lies in having millions of supporters. Vance doesn't have that. They barely tolerate him. Politics isn't about just getting into power, you have to have people willing to support your plans. As much as Trump wants it to be, it's not a dictatorship, and the only reason it looks so much like one is that he has thousands of people in government who will break the law because he wants them to. What reason do we have to think they'd be even half as willing to do that for Vance?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 3 weeks ago

MAGA is a classic Cult of Personality, and Trump is the man. There is no #2, or even an obvious successor. Vance, Rubio, Don Jr, and others all see themselves as the heir apparent, but the MAGA rank & file only love Trump, and when he's gone, most of them will fade away.

Some may try to keep it together, but their hearts won't be in it. 90% of the MAGA following will evaporate, leaving only Republicans who sold their souls for the worst president and the most prolific traitor in American history.

When he croaks, the knives will come out, and the backstabbing will begin. I can't wait.

Also, a good chunk of people think he’s weirdo couch fucker that wears mascara and is Peter Theil’s butt boy.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've also heard at least one person claim they think Vance had Charlie Kirk killed so as to get with Erika Kirk. Which while weird isn't even outside of the realm of possibility funny enough, I could definitely see Vance being part of a plot to kill old bleedy kneck to get with Mrs. Bleedy kneck.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Or Israel had Kirk killed because he was recently and loudly anti-Israel, had Presidential ambitions and they knew that their puppet Vance couldn't win an election against him when it came to that.

I agree

I'm extremely grateful for the fact that I live in a civilised country, rather than 'Murica

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If it weren't for the fact I'm a USA citizen, I'd migrate elsewhere. I may not be high demand but I'm certain there's countries out there that'd still take someone with my career knowledge still.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There are many pathways to emigrate

Lots of countries have visas available to people with qualifications

Look up "skilled migrants" visas

Australia is at least one option

A lot of them want either high level degree holders or medical specialists. I've looked about and not seen anything related to IT.

Vance has the charm and charisma of a dead mouse under a door mat. Right wing propaganda and think tanks built the perfect fascist base but it was hijacked by Trump and they won't follow anyone else exclusively. There'll still be MAGA like there's still cultists from dead cults.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If they nuke Trump, there is a good chance he's close enough.

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Lots of folks in the DMV don’t need to go down with Trump et al.

The DMV is not magaland

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

This argument is weak

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

No he might actually be worse overall because he’s Thiel’s special boy but also he wouldn’t just impulsively nuke Malaysia because they were mean to him. Mostly because he’s Thiels special boy and Peter is terrified of death

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

He is because he isn't a cult leader. The power vacuum could only be a good thing.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I don't fucking care. Things are horrible now. I'll take the gamble you're wrong (which you are. Vance isn't a mascot like Trump.)
