After WWII ended, the Allies implemented a program of denazification of Germany. Now, people have argued that this was poorly done, and they may have some good points, but at least an effort was made. Hell, we allowed the Southern states to put up monuments to the Confederacy, and those didn't get taken down until very recently.

Most of those monuments were erected a century later, to assert dominance during the Civil Rights era.
