In the other article (in french) I posted. It is said that Israel army used to be pretty laic for quite a long time up to the point it opened itself to women and LGBT recruits but that a religious movement started to take over in 2006 and progressively grew in importance over the years. It also changed who is joining the army. Now there are more people coming from the colonies and orthodoxes. So even if the very roots of Israel are religious it still make a difference.

I read it. But yeah, when basing a country on religious beliefs, can't really call it a plague when said beliefs come back to bite your ass.
