People are animals, apes to be specific, we act on instinct and adhere to the animal nature of our species. There is nothing grand or divine about us. There is nothing special to us, other than our ability to survive in different climates and environments, and there is nothing that separates us from the animals. We are the equivalent to over abundant irresponsible beavers with thumbs. The only reason we, as a species, think otherwise is purely delusion and wishful thinking.
Also, mothman did 9/11.
The biggest problem is that our technology has been rapidly outpacing our society’s and legal system’s ability to moderate it, and is epically outstripping our ability to evolve better and more appropriate cognitive structures (biologically/developmentally-generated, so grounded in evolution) that might be able to better restrain ourselves and our destructive impulses.
TL;DR: As a species, we’re morons hammering on a nuclear detonator with a stone hammer.
Yup, and it really feels like we’re beyond the trigger point for that bullet. Capitalism is devouring sustainability at every step, we have outright refused to do anything about what has to be at least a bakers dozen or two of things that we are fully aware of and know the solutions to that are completely and inarguably devastating the environment in irreversible ways from top to bottom, and to top it off we have a military super power under the governance of a regime of anti-intellectuals who have been planning, communicating, and executing a plan to destabilize and overtake foreign and domestic markets and governments so that they can buy out and control everything so that nobody can stop them from doing whatever the hell they want (this sounds insane, and to be clear it is. The things in the Epstein files aren’t just about raping and killing children, the top of the pyramid of capitalism is just a bunch of rich powerful juvenile psychopaths.) ever since, at least, Barry fucking Goldwater.
We have, in the midst of this glorious insanity, built a doomsday machine of nuclear obliviation that is primed and ready to glass the surface of this planet, and the amount of times they’ve almost set it off just by mistake, (not as part of being prepared for or reacting to a conflict or something, just earnest whoopsie daisies) is really comforting. I know how we, and everything else on this planet, are going to end as a species. And it could happen at any moment.
If you haven’t looked into it, the amount of nuclear warheads primed and ready to launch if a single one of them anywhere in the world launches is enough that there will be no atmosphere on this planet anymore. The bunkers of the rich and powerful will simply rob them of the mercy of a quick and painless death. We have built a more thorough apocalypse than any gods have ever dared to dream. Tears in the rain, baby.
