Trump has no power to “decree” that voters must present ID or to end mail-in balloting. But that doesn’t mean he can’t at least try both. Under the Insurrection Act or some other dusty statute, he can declare a state of emergency. Then he can decide that said state permits, nay requires, him to take extraordinary measures. On October 5, say, that might mean outlawing early voting. By October 13, it might mean no mail-in voting. By October 29, a reminder that all voters must present ID to vote. And by Sunday, November 1, two days before the election—an announcement that all these “reasonable” measures have alas failed, and he is now forced, against his will, to postpone the election.

I was more than willing to believe that Trump might try to cancel elections or take over the media. But even I, when I sat down to think about exactly how, couldn’t quite pin down the specifics. No president had ever tried to do either of those things, so how exactly could Trump pull them off?

Man, they wrote it all down as much as a year before the 2024 election. It was called Project 2025. They even posted it online, for everyone to read.

That’s one of the primary things that utterly baffles and infuriates me - THIS WAS ALL PUBLIC.

They literally wrote out their playbook, and yet there are TONS of people and media pundits and “opposition” politicians going like

For fucks sake, you are not allowed to be surprised by this.

I remember when project 2025 came out there was a lot of idiotic rhetoric about it such as "its just a think tank bro" and "they aren't elected so the document is meaningless".

Ironic now that Jim Brewer is a maggot

FYI: That's not Jim Breuer, it's Brian Regan

Ah fuck you're right.

They both have Jim Carey face

Oh, huh, I didn’t realize 🤦‍♂️

Yeah I sadly didn't know until recently

I read it and thought it would be their downfall. I really thought newspapers would tear that thing apart. I thought it would be over for them long before the election.

It reads like, paraphrasing:

"We will take all the good things away and spit in your face"

This also has happened in other counties before. I know the US likes to see itself as special but the overall patterns of fascist government takeovers and more gradual democratic backsliding have been well established by history and political science.
