Prohibits using Claude to conduct surveillance or promote violence. Partners with Palantir. Seems Anthropic is of two minds about those prohibitions.
They are a tiny little scrappy tech startup, give them a break while they find their feet.
/s!
I guess.
I'm not applying a moral valuation to companies working with the defense department. But saying you don't want your AI to be used for this stuff while working with Palantir to bring your AI directly to DISA and the DOD seems like they don't really mean it. Also the quote from the article below about intending Claude to be used for intelligence analysis from Anthropic's head of sales and partnerships.

"We're proud to be at the forefront of bringing responsible AI solutions to U.S. classified environments, enhancing analytical capabilities and operational efficiencies in vital government operations. Access to Claude 3 and Claude 3.5 within Palantir AIP on AWS will equip U.S. defense and intelligence organizations with powerful AI tools that can rapidly process and analyze vast amounts of complex data. This will dramatically improve intelligence analysis and enable officials in their decision-making processes, streamline resource intensive tasks and boost operational efficiency across departments," said Kate Earle Jensen, Head of Sales and Partnerships, Anthropic.
EDIT: Ah, missed your /s! 😆 My dumb ass for not checking to see we're in A Boring Dystopia...
There is giving them a break and making excuses to justify blatant hypocrisy.
They oppose violence and surveillance but then sell out to a fascist corporation that is actively creating a panopticon? Give me a fucking break.
