Lemmy is still here yes? You're commenting on a Lemmy post and reaching other Lemmy users. That is what decentralisation solves. If it was centralized this would mean the end for Lemmy.
It solves the problem of "where do we go now that [X] is fucked up?"
Anyone with the means can make a LemmyNSFW2.0 and carry on after hitting this bump in the road.
If it was a proprietary privately owned site, you would have to do a lot more to duplicate it.
This is less like Reddit going down and more like a single, specific page on Reddit not opening correctly.

Upvoting with my comment too. This is the third time this has happened with a major site. I mean, yeah, nice to have a thing, but not so nice for it to go dark overnight
This isn't a problem federation is supposed to solve, what are you two talking about?
Not a problem with federation, a problem with decentralization
I feel like there should be a way to enable instances to be forked in the event that something happens to it.
