World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

I think some ICE goons should be deported to Russia, let's see how they like being conscripted when they get there.
Every single story I read about US Americans moving to Russia because they think Russia is so much better is always a hilarious read. I particularly liked the black woman who thought there wasn’t racism in Russia. 🤣🤣🤣
Just to be clear, Edward Snowden leaked classified info to US journalists, and fled the country, he tried going elsewhere, but US took his passport and Russia accepted him staying. And he choose to flee after watching Obama's war on whistleblowers, and how some are still in prison for the first amendment in US constitution. Some even faced what many consider to be torture.
I was going to add a note at the end of my comment about Snowden, but decided not to. That doesn’t really apply to what I was talking about.
It's a US citizen that moved to Russia because people like him were being jailed and tortured in US, and it's better in Russia for him, and he can, and does speak his mind. So no, it's not "every single story"
You do realize that Snowden is a pawn in Putin's hands. It was the reason why he was taken in. He would be exchanged in a heartbeat if it meant removal of sanctions or return of some frozen assets. Snowden isn't stupid and knows this very well himself (he didn't have a choice).
You do realize that he's not an American pawn for exposing that the US government spies on all its citizens. How you're OK that your government spies on you and all its citizens, and now it's coming out that they have a secret list of dissidents that are labeled "domestic terrorists" that even congress can't see, is nothing short of concerning. Let alone the fact that 2nd Amendment also doesn't apply anymore, as you can't have a gun at a protest against your secret police that are wearing face masks. But sure.... Russia, Putin, Iran, and Venezuela.
That was a wild ride. Snowden was stateless after his passport was revoked and Russia accepted him in transit to another country.
He wanted to go to Ecuador first, but his passport was revoked while he was in Russia, where he stopped on his flight from Hong Kong. He's still in Russia, openly speaking on Twitter all the time.
Holy shit, that's not just putting your face in the leopards mouth that's crawling into it's stomach as hard as you can.
After pre-masticating your own face for it.
Is it possible that some of them are hired Russian mercenaries?
Doubtful, Russia needs all their men for war.
They're probably sending the people too stupid to be fed to the meat grinder
Very sad, hearing a prime target: rural men w/o big city/powerful connections/relatives
See the video of the guy that couldn't figure out why the water bottles were frozen? No such thing.
