Yeah, what's with boomers and the need to add an emoji at the end if each message?

[โ€“] big_slap@lemmy.world 31 points 4 days ago (1 children)

wait, that's boomer shit? ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

[โ€“] kurwa@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

๐Ÿ˜Ž yeah you gotta add it to the beginning!

Singular and plural are the same because it's a Japanese loanword. All nouns in Japanese can be used this way, to my knowledge.

[โ€“] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Nope, it's Latin. The original emojus was the dong, and could be found scrawled on every wall in Rome.

[โ€“] ComradeRachel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The same with millennials adding lol to the end of every sentence. Which is me I do that lol.

[โ€“] DahGangalang 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't know what you mean lol

[โ€“] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

lol right

usually I'm good with it but sometimes it just seems the most appropriate, like now lol

[โ€“] D_C@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

My mate is technically a boomer and he puts lol and emojis at the end of his messages.

My sister is nearly a boomer yet will not use lol or emojis. However she ends every sentence with at least two x's. That's every sentence!

I still don't know which is worse.

Edit: I just remembered. My mate texted me once to tell me his brother just got diagnosed with arse cancer and ended the text with a few prayer emojis, an upside down head emoji, with a lol in-between.

I've not used lol properly since we stopped using T9 keypad phones

[โ€“] TheBat@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

I'm not a boomer ๐Ÿ˜ก

[โ€“] timsjel@piefed.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

To real, am boomer-ish and I dont know why but there's like an itch within and I fucking can not not do that shit. Im broken for sure ๐Ÿ˜ข

[โ€“] Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maybe it's the psychology of inferring tone from text, and not wanting to be misunderstood in a faster-paced communications medium. A shortcut to ensure the message is received with the proper intent when the engagement time has fallen drastically?

[โ€“] SpongyAneurysm@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Then why are people using this bugger everywhere: ๐Ÿ˜‚

Like theyre actually laughing to tears when they see something remotely funny. I don't buy it

It's boomer for lol and rofl

[โ€“] Zorque@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, they should emote instead >:(

[โ€“] DahGangalang 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Hard agree on this one (ยด๏ฝฅฯ‰๏ฝฅ`)

[โ€“] yakko@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I don't mind that as much as the boomer thing of adding ellipses at the end of every text. Especially extra strength ellipses........ Horrid writing style

Edit: I wrote an 8-dot ellipses and Lemmy truncated it to three. I just love that.

[โ€“] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh man, I had a boss who did that. Everything else about him was amazing, but those fucking ellipses drove me up the wall.

[โ€“] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit, you worked for Scott too?
