Nowhere does the comic say that though?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The subtext is glaringly obvious, and pretending not to see it is disingenuous at best.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nowhere does the comic say that any victim doesn't matter. Nowhere does the comic say you shouldn't be upset. Quite the opposite, the comic says you should've been upset a long time ago.

I think the fact that you're reading the most aggressive interpretation you can think of into it in order to find an excuse to be defensive says more about yourself than it does about the comic.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Except for the simple fact that a lot of people already have been upset for a long time.

The comic assumes that people are just now getting upset. If that's your take every time a victim happens to be white, then that says more about you than it does about me.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure, some people have been upset already. But the difference in volume before and after the most recent killings shows that quite a lot of people are just now getting upset. If that isn't you, good, but then why are you acting like this comic is a personal attack on you?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's always an increase in volume after an incident like this. The more visible it is, the greater the increase.

If you're upset about an increase in momentum, then you're kinda shooting the movement in the foot and that makes me question what your intentions are. Maybe you simply haven't thought it through; I'm not gonna assume you're a bad-faith actor planted to disrupt the resistance on so little evidence.

The problem is that this comic paints with a very broad brush, and it kinda leaves any white person who's been actively protesting with no choice but to say "Well fuck me, then."

Again, if your reaction to a comic pointing out that these atrocities have gone on longer than just the two latest killings is to take it personally and get defensive over it, if your reaction is "Well fuck me, then", I think that says more about you than it does about the comic.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm simply pointing out that people have been aware of the problem and upset about it for a long time. But that's inconvenient to the narrative you're trying to push, so you keep ignoring it whenever I mention that.

The problem with the comic isn't that it pointed out that there have been more than just two murders. The problem is that it painted an entire race of people (who have diverse worldviews and opinions) with the same broad brush, and uses that generalization to create a strawman argument, i.e. "white people don't care when non-whites get murdered," and you continue to refuse to acknowledge that not only is that counter-factual, but it's also counter-productive (and racist).

And then you not-so-subtly insinuate that I must be racist if I have a problem with it? You're so transparent.

It's called subtext, and it's not subtle.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You're just going out of your way to assume the most bad faith interpretations you can think of for everything.

I seriously think you need to do some introspection about why this makes you react this way.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't need to go very far out of my way to tell that this post is clearly directing some racially-charged micro-aggressions towards white people, but if you're so stuck in your worldview that white people can never be done wrong and it's okay to treat them in all the ways that you yourself would never tolerate being treated, then I guess we're not going to find any middle ground...

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Lol, fucking fragile white people man...

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

If people getting upset about others making generalizations about their race is being "fragile," then I don't want to hear a fucking soul complaining about racism when it's directed at them.

Imagine if someone in 2020 said "lol, fucking fragile black people man..."

Cause that's exactly what you're doing. But I don't expect you to have any self-awareness, because you're probably ideologically committed to the bit where it's impossible to be racist against white people.

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 minutes ago* (last edited 3 minutes ago)

Get fucked with your white victim complex, dude.

You're all over this damn post going red in the face not understanding what exactly folks are talking about here. Or just not caring.

The US has a systemic racism problem. By extension, white people within the US are in a visibly privileged position. To deny this is... I don't know, something fucking else.

So you can, hopefully, understand when POCs vent their frustration from time to time when the needle of political will in this country seems to only ever shift when enough white people are caught in the blowback. Hell, white allies fucking realize this.

Lastly, get your head out of your ass. This comic isn't even that abrasive with the truths that it reveals. You're just thin-skinned.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess it's too much to expect you to do any introspection, when you can always just blame white people for everything

[–] missingno@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago

Also not what I said.
