Still no headphone jack
https://shop.fairphone.com/shop/usb-c-to-mini-audio-jack-adapter-3-5mm-1603
What if I want to also charge while using headphones, which is something I definitely do every hour of every day??? /s
Because it makes little sense to have features that most people no longer care about in a phone trying to be repairable. One less thing to break, one less part to sell.
i have yet to meet a 3.5mm socket that's gone bad. like. i get gutting the โฌ0.50 or whatever, but it's weird how many people defend this decision as pro-consumer when a lot of people would get a lot of utility out of it.
if the presence or absence of a headphone jack isn't a factor in your decision making process, that's fine, but for some people it is. they're not attacking your decision. they're just disappointed that something they'd otherwise want doesn't meet some of their criteria for what they're looking for
I see it as not having an IR blaster. Would be pretty handy sometimes. And unlike the headphone jack, can't easily be fixed.
True, best just get rid of the feature entirely ๐
Induction charger
Had to do this with an iPhone. Induction charging has a hard time keeping up with GPS antenna, streaming music and directions on long drives. Especially if you have a decently thick case to try and keep the damn phone in one peice for any length of time.
Combined USB-C charger and jack connectors also exist, so could help you here.
Edit: ah... just saw the /s
Split connectors don't fit my aesthetics ๐ญ
If you have to charge a FP 6 while using headphones, you're doing something wrong most likely, unless you just have not used a charger in many days. The battery is awesome. Amazing how much better shit works when google is not wasting all your power by hacking your soul.
That's the point of my joke. Even if your an avid user of wired headphones, it's quite rare that you need to plug both. Maybe during a long flight.
Some phones used to have decent DAC (for a phone). Those cables don't. And USB-C isn't so robust as the jack.
It's not a crucial feature for me, but I would have preferred to have more phones with jack and SD cards.
And they still have a DAC because they drive physical speakers.
If it's about water proofing, the same solution that makes the charge port water-tight would work for a headphone jack.
And I have a combined charger/audio jack adapter for my car. It's cold now, and the adapter doesn't connect very well until it warms up. And since the audio is now being accessed via USB, the phone needs to unlock before it will start sending a signal. And every time it loses that connection, audio stops and the phone needs to be unlocked to start it again (lock screen play button will only play through the phone speakers until it's unlocked).
Not to mention just getting a decent adapter isn't straightforward either, especially in this day of so many fly by night "businesses" that just stick around long enough that the real negative reviews start to cancel out the fake ones they purchased as a cost of being in the fraud business, not to mention the "legit" businesses so often embracing enshitification and misleading marketing.
Oh also sometimes my car's RPM can be heard through the speakers because that's how it generates the current to power the adapter and it isn't sufficiently isolated like it was on the phone.
I'm not a mac user I don't want nor need 30 different dongles for every possible combination
Edit: at third try it opened, those cables suck. If at least the usb was one of those at a 90ยฐ angle so it doesn't stick out in the worst way possible.
Page works for me.
At third try it opened.
9.95 for one of those shitty cables that stick out like an old timey antenna? I had many of these, they suck.
You can also buy them from elsewhere, or shift to wireless headphones that can link through bluetooth or something.
I already had two bluetooth headphones, both got bricked just because, and those fuckers weren't cheap. I won't have a third pair bricked.
You're a headphone jack.
