Honestly after decades of ego and exceptionalism, this demand that other people fix issues they've caused themselves is pretty on-brand for the US

The most aggravating thing is they've polarised themselves into thinking any outside force refusing to "fix it" is being sanctimonious.
Nah fam. this is something you've built from the ground up and entrenched into your culture, so you have to fix it. Outside forces imposing will end up with another iraq. (Or afghanistan. Or libya. Or Iran. ). Hell, even Germany was headed towards burying its cat turds until niemoller & co grassrooted the idea of collective guilt to come to terms with their crimes.
It's gotta come from inside the house.
