Whats the issue so many people have with her killing a puppy? At least she killed the animal herself unlike the vast majority of people who eat the flesh of animals that got tortured their whole lives.
She killed it because she couldn't train it. It did something she didn't like and instead of training it properly or giving it up she shot it.
She didn't do it to eat it or use the carcass in any usable way. She shot it because it didn't immediately obey her.
Your altruism means nothing here.

Am I allowed to kill someone if I eat them afterwards? The reason for a sentient being getting killed is irrelevant to it, the only thing that matters is that a feeling life has been needlessly destroyed.
