Strange they don't include all the brand new coal plants China is building along side their renewables. Having a cleaner (gas)fossil fuel backup isn't a bad thing, having the most filthy possible backup is. I hate that the USA burns as much coal as it does too. Although, USA is number 2 in new renewables and total renewable production, without new coal plants. Unfortunately, I don't see this bullshit administration growing that renewables number to rival China. Unless your country has zero economic capabilities, you should not burn coal for electricity period. I've got a lot of interest in this new CO2 battery tech, I see it being a major key in 100% renewables that can handle fluctuations.

Having a cleaner (gas)fossil fuel backup isn't a bad thing,

Yes, it is. Despite the PR name, "natural gas" is fossil fuel and burning it is awful for the climate, the planet, and everything living on it.

Yes, it burns cleaner than coal, but that's like saying that you prefer arsenic on your cereal over cyanide. Neither is an acceptable choice when there are options that WON'T kill you to satisfy the greed of billionaires.

~~Unless your country has zero economic capabilities~~ you should not burn ~~coal~~ any fossil fuels for electricity period.

Fixed it for you. With renewables being so much cheaper and faster to build and implement, the ONLY excuse is your electric grid not being built for it and that's MUCH easier and cheaper to rectify than the fossil fuel billionaires and their pet politicians claim.
