More than a thousand protests are planned across the US this Saturday and Sunday after ICE agents shot three people, one fatally, in Minneapolis and Portland, Oregon, this week.

"This weekend, people all over are coming together not just to mourn the lives lost to ICE violence, but to confront a pattern of harm that has torn families apart and terrorized our communities,” said Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible, an organizer of “ICE Out for Good Weekend of Action”.

For the ICE Out for Good weekend of action, events are planned in every corner of every state, from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, to Machias in eastern Maine. Indivisible, one of the groups behind last year’s No Kings protests, is continuously updating its online tracker to note every vigil, rally and protest. Other coordinating groups include the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and the 50501 movement.

“We demand justice for Renee, ICE out of our communities and action from our elected leaders,” said Greenberg. “Enough is enough.”

...I'm not sure if you know what victim blaming is.

It's arguable that residents of Red states are the victims of maliciously underfunded and wildly biased education.

Look closely at the protest numbers in the red states on the protest map I linked just above, and look at my post history, and know I'm writing from a red state. There are a LOT of undercounted voices here. Red states are largely red through excessive gerrymandering and massive economic inequality. All you're really telling me is that you have never lived in a rural area of the US since 2015 and have no idea of the massive social pressure and firehosing of propaganda directed at these places.

While I would not have chosen the word "victim" myself, @nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org is not factually wrong. It's very easy to blame red states while flatly refusing to acknowledge how they got to be there, and what forces are in place to ensure they stay there, exactly as they are: it is the biggest wealth stripping operation in US history, and it shows zero signs of stopping.

Thank you for this; I had not seen it and I'll definitely take a look. Someone who talked about this subject for decades, not just directly but woven into the background of his subjects, was Gore Vidal. Any time I reread him I am shocked at just how prescient his insights were, but like Carl Sagan it proves that there were those who could see this coming fifty years ago.
