I was looking for an alternative for PayPal and quickly stumbled upon Wero. But unfortunately Wero isn't yet acceppted by all countries, banks and online shops. So I built werotracker.eu to keep track of the adoption of Wero.

โžก๏ธ Link: https://werotracker.eu/

This dashboard has the following features:

๐Ÿ“ˆ Show adoption stats

๐Ÿ” Search for banks and online shops

โœ… Filter for countries and support status (supported/announced/unsupported)

๐Ÿ’ธ See individual payment features (P2P, eCommerce, POS), not every Wero implementation is equal

๐Ÿ“ฑ App availability

I hope this dashboard is helpful to you ๐Ÿ˜€

The site as well as the data is open-source under the Apache 2.0 License. You can find the source-code here: https://github.com/sharknoon/wero-tracker

If you see an error or your bank is missing, please give us a hint or contribute directly: https://github.com/sharknoon/wero-tracker?tab=readme-ov-file#contribution

Thank you and have fun ๐ŸŽ‰

Per wikipedia:

Wero is managed by banks via their mobile apps. This creates a dependency on iOS (Apple) and Android (Google) systems. Consequently, Wero exchanges its reliance on payment networks like Visa and Mastercard, for a reliance on two Big Tech giantsโ€”Apple and Google, with the new dependency focusing on online availability and distribution through their application stores.

Needing to rely on two pro-fascist tech companies seems like a particularly bad idea. Wero also does not appear to be anonymous.

A better alternative to Wero is GNU Taler, which is a properly open standard that is a true anonymous digital cash, and offers real independence from tech-bro corporations.

We have a community that discusses GNU Taler over at !money@slrpnk.net

But this is not a problem with Wero, but rather with the banks. In fact, some banking apps work by downloading them from app stores other than Apple and Google. I agree that GNU Taler is a better solution, but Wero is still a remarkable advance and a very promising solution for all types of payments in Europe (P2P, online shops, and physical shops).
