Apple only permits its own web renderer. It does not allow other developers to make their own iOS web browsers with their own technology.
Apple is a jerk.
no longer true everywhere because in some places around the world, laws have forced Apple to change this
Just a few days ago I posted this article https://open-web-advocacy.org/blog/how_apples_key_tactic_could_prevent_japans_smartphone_act_from_improving_browser_competition/ on Lemmy where you can read more about the current state.
So far I am not aware of a single browser with a different engine, unfortunately.
Firefox have stated that for the time it would not be viable to develop to browsers with different engines for iOS at the moment. I start to feel that by the time Apple allows for a global role out, I have moved to GrapheneOS or something (just holding on to my mini for as long as possible).
