Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened.

Evangelical Christians are easy to lie to, if you want to know the truth, because they disdain intelligence, preferring their world in which they cosplay magic in fairyland 24/7 without even a tiny hint of self-awareness (because they have none). Given the same choice he would do it again, because he's too cost-sunk in his dumbass roleplaying to do anything different.

Evangelical Christians just want to hear that they're going to be rewarded for their suffering. Catholics as well. The Rapture, Heaven, Honoring the Son of God...

It's a whole group of miserable people who are desperate for affirmation that their misery has meaning. Then they groom their children into miserable lives, and pressure strangers into being miserable as well. It's incredibly sad.
