Minerals are cool, too.
Be gneiss to each other
Please use posts for your rocks. Feel free to add more pictures and links to articles in the post text.
This place is building up fast and looking for another mod, someone who:
We meet at last. People keep warning me about you.
But whatever, cool articles, I'll leave them up. I do want to keep this com to more "I found a rock" type posts, since news will inevitably lead to politics and drama. I'll make a discussion post to see what folks think since the rules aren't clear. Personally, I already have three news coms, so I'm hesitant.
Articles like this would be great for !wildfeed@sh.itjust.works though. Alternatively, a geology news partner channel could be cool.
Nice to meet you. The myth of me is worse than the reality. lol
You make a good point concerning news about rocks versus "I found a rock" posts. Moving forward, I'll only post rocks I find. I haven't been rockhunting in a few months because of weather. I found a small meteorite (confirmed by local uni) last summer, and it's the highlight of my finds.
I'm glad you created this community! I'd like to see Lemmy be much more science and much less politics. I love that this community is getting some good traction.
I don't pay much attention to the shit I hear at the end of a long game of reactionary telephone.
Cool rocks is for everyone, seems like everyone likes cool rocks. I really just wanted a place to share my rocks and see other rocks, so thanks for coming.
I started a discussion post about whether we should have articles, so don't worry too much about it. I'll clarify the rules this weekend once folks weigh in.
And nice! We have a favorite rock thread going, too, feel free to tell everyone all about it. It's real winter near me, too, so I've just been scraping iron oxide from the cliffsides for paint. I'm excited for the spring runoff in a few months.
