"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Sure. We all should just make sure not to drink all of their kool aid. Public schools are a good thing, despite rich people sending their kids to private ones. Car companies will frame it like cars are the ultimate freedom. And they always do awesome things in nature with their vehicles. While in reality freedom for me in a city means working public transport... A collectively funded subway and train system and all kinds of things which get me to work avoiding the daily traffic jam... The image with driving an expensive car on a hill summit is their dream, but not on my bucket list.... I'd rather buy an $8,000 mountain bike and get rid of my car in a perfect world. And technology isn't a bad thing per se. I mean Porsche probably knows this because modern cars are packed with technology.

I don't really do what rich people do. Nor what they tell me to do. I'll just buy a refurbished Dell laptop for $300 and put Linux on the darn thing. I think that's the right way to do it. Sometimes freedom and opportunity isn't even expensive. Unfortunately per default my Linux comes without surveillance, big tech, cloud services, AI... It doesn't turn me into a zombie... I just hope that some day the EU will realize school kids and other people need the same freedom and protection from Chromebooks or whatever breadcrumbs big tech has for us peasants. You're certainly right. We all should be protected from predatory tech. Everyone needs to be able to receive good education.
