How long are we going to tolerate Boomers existing and sacrificing the lives of children? Every war that has been initiated since Millennials started being born were started by Boomers: 1) Gulf 1 (Regan and Boomers); 2) War in Afghanistan, Iraq 1 and 2, Syria. Now, Venezuela and Nigeria?

On top of all that, climate change.

The world will be soooo much BETTER OFF once we finally start putting them in boxes

Was Charlie Kirk a boomer? What about the TP USA fans? There are a lot of young people in this group. You are aiming at the wrong target with boomers. Many of them were members and initiated the hippies and peace and love movement during the 60s.

I can tell you, from personal experience, that this doesn't really mean anything about who they are now.

[–] tartarin@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

But it may be a hint who you will be in 50 years from now.

Which amounted to nothing but casual sex and drugs. Then they sharply and consistently voted for selfish and exclusive socialeconomic policies.

I'm not sad for the boomers that I've personally interacted with and their cohorts when they are in boxes.

False. According to Google, today's boomers are divided almost equally between Republicans and Democrats (48% D, 46% R).

> Humans have been causing existential climate change.

> False. Google tells me 1/4 of the year is still winter.

You should read an actual history book on Boomers and neoliberalism sometimes if you're honestly curious about the answer 😂. Or don't - I don't care.

a small group of SILENT generation is still in congress right now, they seem to hold alot of power sitll.

[–] etherphon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Hate to say, but people have been saying that for probably almost as long as people could talk.

Regan and Boomers

Reagan was elected 45 years ago, when most of today's boomers were in their 20's and 30's.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

silent generation.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nope. They woulda been late 30s

[–] ronl2k@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

According to Google, average boomer age = 70 (b 1955), would be 25 in 1980 when Reagan elected.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I mean you're right: Regan, himself was not a Boomer, but he certainly would have worked with them. Regan was born in '11, so he'd have been silent generation. But, my point still holds a bit in that Boomers started to come about in '46. So, by 1980, they'd have been 34. That means, they'd have been old enough to sit in Congress, and would have been eligible to run for offices as early as '73. So, they've been spoiling things for a few days short of 53 years.

Not only are you describing the very oldest possible boomers, but you're describing their voting behavior long before they were boomers. Most young voters back then were quite Liberal.

An old Boomer is still a Boomer.
