Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

It is a lot more devious and nefarious than simple jealousy. It's war on any institution that can potentially undermine their authority and jeopardize their interests.

Scientific advances potentially make previous industries obsolete or expose them for being harmful (in this case it would be how climate readings are exposing the fossile fuel industry), which is a direct threat to capitalists who have invested heavily in said industries. With the understanding that the power of the state comes from the power of the economy you understand that these capitalists are deeply in bed with politicians to ensure that the pendulum always swings in their favor and begin to see why things are going the way they are.

Since they have failed to manipulate those of this institution into manipulating the data for their benefit—make no mistake, they have tried desperately to do so—and they know they cannot intimidate or otherwise coerce everyone into not using the data against them they utilize their systemic control over the ownership of the means by which these institutions conduct their labor to ensure the data never gets collected in the first place.

It's such a shame, it isn't like these things just disappear and stop existing. It's literally just being told "hey you can't do this anymore" and people capitulating to those demands. Only until the people unite with each other to take back our collective control and tell these draconic control freaks to shove their "order" up their ass will we ever begin to realize a free and just society.
