Gen X betrayed all expectations when they elected Trump, now my outlook on the future is that social media campaigns are too effective and humanity is heading down the worst possible path.
Way to completely reverse the tone of the headline, lol.
The comments on Lemmy are sooooo bleak. I don't blame people for being negative, that would be ridiculous, but it does get to me, bit by bit, chipping away at what I think of as an essential store of hope that's necessary if we're going to be able to bring about a less awful future.
Here's where I wanted to post the meme of Marge Simpson asking her kids to lighten up but I gave up and typed this sentence instead.
I just always feel to need to correct inaccuracies when I see claims about X group of people. Ignoring the MAGA lean of Gen Z males will not help us.
Yeah, that's fair. And maybe part of why I felt the need to leave that comment is because Christmas makes me feel awful and lonely. And maybe it's unrealistic of me to want people to be careful with their tone because of sensitive people like myself.
But the tone of Lemmy and of people in general is making it so hard for me to stay engaged. And I doubt I'm alone in this.
You're certainly not wrong, it just seems like every single time I click on a post with an optimistic tone, that optimism is absolutely shattered by the comments. I watch Last Week Tonight because the writers of that show understand how bleak their stories are and inject them with silly humor to balance it out. But even the places on Lemmy which are supposed to be silly are flooded with negative political posts. There's just no escaping it.
