What's with authoritarian world leaders having the tackiest taste in decor?

Like, they manage to make expensive things look cheap and nasty. I know the things in this picture are not, but the whole vibe is falling so far short of what it's going for, it actually goes in the opposite direction. It's nasty.

its what they think, people see as being wealthy. so its all marble, with gold leaf everything. its called being GAUDY, plus the giant vases they are obsessed with.
