So what would the major innovation be? Running native under Linux? That seems too little focused on the game itself.. Would it be the vr? That doesn't seem novel enough given Alyx..

Edit: Oh no. Is it going to be AI of some sort? AI dialogue or something?

Edit 2: Co-op vr campaign? With a game director like in l4d, but then much more sophisticated

From the Source engine updates analyses, I think it’s going to be voxels (thus deformable world), a physics engine to support voxels, fluid stimulation, fire simulation, acoustics simulation, NPC AI emotional simulation and adding senses like smell to NPCs.

Story wise this could make sense. There was a ship stuck in ice right. Perhaps destroying, removing or deforming the snow and ice is going to be part of it?

voxels

Gaben here. Today we are proud to announce Minecraft in Source 2

Okay you know what, I think I'd be equally excited about that. Give me that non-Microsoft Minecraft in a beautiful hackable Linux supported engine

I've played a fair bit of Luanti! I've found myself rather obsessed with Vintage Story lately though which isn't quite as free as Luanti but its source-readable (as in the code is available but the license restricts its usage for anything) and has a modding framework

... smell-o-vision.

Gameplay that can support wiiU esque format with a steam deck and a steam machine? And a steam frame? I dunno

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seems like putting unnecessary hours on the Deck’s battery for it just to be a controller but I guess that could be cool?

Quick, someone build an emulator for Star Fox Zero 😅

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 2 points 2 days ago

Well, no, not just a controller. The screen would be part of the experience somehow

Steam consistently have been pretty anti-AI, not banning it, but heavily suggesting not to play games which use it.

So very much doubt AI.

If anything it would be Source Engine updates, HL1 was an elaborate tech demo, at its heart. As was HL2, to a lesser extent.

If you can imagine it, then its not worth it. :p Half-Life 3 will be unimaginable... I mean off course it will, yes?
