It makes perfect sense. It’s called mercantilism, big business and the state fusing into one. The state using its diplomatic, financial and military power to force open markets and shut down competitors. Business raking in the money from what amounts to colonialism and/or vassalage.
Welcome back to the 15th to 19th centuries!
Perhaps that time never really went away.
