Say what you want about Altman, he is a fantastic grifter. Instead of suing the shit out of his worthless hypebag bullshit machine “company”, they’re… paying… him… to license their characters…? These corporations have lost their goddamn minds for this snake oil
Disney needs to write off a billion asap. That's literally all I see. Invest in AI? You already lost money and you need a voided check.
And as a free bonus you get your characters in front of even more millions of impressionable faces than usual. They can tie their personal identity to your IP incrementally ever more. Hooray!

At this point I genuinely believe OpenAI knows they're doomed. They are putting all their effort into these massive deals, trying to tie themselves to as many other companies as they can until they are "too big to fail". Then when they go bankrupt, trump won't allow the stock market to crash, so the government will step in and pay everyone out. Maybe these other companies are just trying to get in on the grift while they can.
I have read 0 facts about this, but I bet that the billion 'investment' is mostly just IP license values.
