Rules:
1. Be civil

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Maybe it’s because of the tiny video on my phone, and that it was on mute, but I don’t really see what the problem is. It looks like any other advertisement. It does not make me want to go to McDonald’s any more than I already did not.
I assume this is all anti-ai pushback.
Well, yeah, but it’s also crap visually probably because it is AI. The pacing, the creepy textures and unnatural movement and physics put the whole thing in the uncanny valley.
That is pretty standard pacing. Annoying, but standard. I don’t know what physics you were talking about. The cat and the tree? That would clearly be CG if not AI.
Again, I looked at it on a tiny screen.
Maybe if I was the kind of person who watched McDonald’s commercials on a large screen and then got upset when I thought some of it might be AI, and then went frame by frame pointing out how bad I thought it was. Then went to social media to complain.
The cat and the tree is janky as fuck (it would start off slower and gain speed). The mixer exploding looks like nothing real, and produced a gigantic splat that only went on the guy's face, not his jumper, and he reacts before it does so (whilst the woman doesn't react at all). The exploding tree looked like nothing again, then the snow fell off him weirdly as he slid to a stop. When the tree lights break, the old man reacts with a horror-show unchanging wide-open mouth before anything happens, then the sparks appear before the illumination on the presents does. The falling man's limbs all turn to jelly after he does so. The couple eating appear in front of the rain-streaked window.
Yeah but who the fuck cares, it’s a stupid commercial? I guarantee that no one outside of the “I hate AI“ crowd noticed anything. In fact, I don’t think anybody noticed the commercial even if they stared right at it.
I'm sure it's mostly anti ai backlash, but people do still care about the quality of things they see even if they're adverts.
This is better than most of the ads I’ve seen in the last decade…

I can only remember one McDonald's ad which featured some kind of burger-UFO. That was pretty funny.
They're all soulless and horrible, but the uncanny valley jank-fest is unsettling in a way that's worse.

Not sure what your proposal is supposed to say given that I have an example of what I would prefer, and that you seem to be saying that all ads are equally bad.
I’m trying to understand the specific reason you dislike it. I don’t believe the reason is the uncanny thing… it’s gotta be more. It could just be a blanket anti-ai thing but that’s just ignorant. Some people hated sound and color when they came to film. Are you a silent film kinda person?
Since I'm not anti AI (I think it's a bit crap but I don't hate it) it's not that.
I don't believe your latest question is serious. If you don't believe that I (along with many others here) find it visually unappealing, there's nothing left to say. You have to either believe the person you're talking to or not have a useful conversation - you won't be able to access my feelings except through what I say about them, will you?
There are very good reasons to this like this, but (most) everyone here who does dislike it just seems to dislike it for the most petty reasons.
Uncanny valley is a perfectly good reason. If you saw an ad with shitty CG I'm sure you'd agree.
To dislike it, maybe, to take to social media condemning the company? No.

It means that a person took the issue to social media. Current participation in social media has nothing to do with it. Although, your response does say a lot.
It all means your beef there regarding the dislike being insufficient, is not with me. I just saw the thread, watched the video, and joined the discussion.

Nope. As I've told you. AI does interest me though.
Lemmy will downvote you for it because they're all luddites, but I think you're right. Even the worst parts just look like bad special effects/cgi more than anything.
It's not like we look to adverts for their creativity.
