The word meme itself is a neologism coined by Richard Dawkins, originating from his 1976 book The Selfish Gene.[14]

And he just named the phenomenon which probably exists since there are humans (and probably among other animals as well).

Fairytales and folklore songs are memes.

Schoolyard clapping games are memes.

Wearing the baseball hat backwards is meme.
