Self checkout just confuses me so much, I'm prone to mistakes. If only there was a trained/paid employee to do it for me

Truth. And, morally, there's no such thing as "stealing" food. ✊🏼
Good thought but it has a tiny flaw called "Human mistake". This flaw is the reason why my wife always reads checkout bills right after leaving cash register.
I'd say they average one mistake per $150 in my experience. Double scanning stuff happens. They don't seem to be trained in which fruits and vegetables are which, so they can easily hit the wrong thing and charge you double.
At my Lidl they put the cheap pink salmon cans on the same shelf intermixed with the more expensive red salmon, so if you just grab a few without looking closely you'll accidentally get some of the expensive ones. So scan the cheap one repeatedly while putting the others in the bag.
Everything is 4011. If I'm feeling generous, it might even be 94011!
What is 4011? Like potatoes or something?
