I like the concept of having to best the pony in a fight, but I would have ended it with the rider and their equestrian friends at a fancy garden horse event in princess dresses and all with missing teeth and black eyes.
The real ending is definitely Shai Hulud-coded for some reason. Your guess is better than anything I've come up with.
