the rise and fall of any socioeconomic system looks the same. it's what happens in the middle of it functioning that's important.
Math does this one weird trick. While one is inside the exponential part of the graph, the slope is slipping the same at every point. It's all going cray cray faster than ever before, every moment the whole time.
Granted, the exponential part can't last indefinitely. But the point is... you don't know where you are on it, when you are on it. It's literally self-similar and without natural scale.
