On the off chance I do survive a crash and am stranded in the arctic…

The gun won’t be for shooting the polar bear

Modern aircraft have all manners of redundant emergency beacons, some of which transmit their GPS location via satellite directly to a station, others simply emit a homing signal that can be direction-found and homed to by rescue aircraft. Within two hours (often much less) of your aircraft being reported overdue or its distress signal being picked up, a search and rescue aircraft will have taken off to head your way to parachute drop rescue personnel and supplies to keep everyone alive until extraction can be arranged. All you need is to survive long enough for them to get to you.
