Produced by just means "paid for by," anyway.

So there's a chance it can still suck if Amazon pays the wrong people to make it.

Even if they pay the right people, it may still suck if they try to influence the creative process at all. Over all, I am not optimistic.

The showrunner worked on all three of the TV series so as long as he doesn’t try something like rebooting SGU it might be good.

But if it starts with a drastically older Robert Carlyle defrosting I’m only giving it two episodes.

The one actor who I most want to reprise their role is Michael Welch as Jack

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 6 points 4 weeks ago

holy shit. so much this

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I want Richard Dean Anderson to at least get a cameo. I know he basically quit acting, but he was such a huge part of Stargate that they should find some one-episode thing for him just to acknowledge his role in the series.

[–] oxideseven@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Sorry he quit acting, so the best we can do is give you Will Forte.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

Will Forte would be fun too, in the right role.

But, I wouldn't be surprised of RDA could be convinced to do a cameo role. He still does convention events, so it's not like he just wants to forget his career or something. A cameo might be more like a convention event. Just show up for a day, do a bit of fan service, and go home with a big pile of money. I actually bet the atmosphere on set would be a bit like a convention anyhow. I would bet that a lot of people involved with a new Stargate show are admirers of his, and would want to just get a selfie with him.

If he took up a recurring role it might become like a job again, but for a one-day shoot it would probably be more like something fun.

Do you know why Ha'tak floats but a Chappa'ai cannot?

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel like I should... but I am drawing a blank. Illuminate me?

Huh. Never bothered to watch that train wreck, so I guess I was only reacting to the Goa'uld words!

Note from the Executives: The SG-1 crew works for Blue Origin now. They use the Stargates to deliver Amazon packages.

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Futurama: SG-1?

Stargate: Planet Express?

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Not gonna lie, I would watch a Stargate-Futurama mashup.

Rings of Power.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 weeks ago

pretty much. ROP looks like just copied the game storylines.

Produced by just means “paid for by,” anyway.

The problem is when they abruptly cut off funding and sit on the IP indefinitely.

That's what they did to James Bond .

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I hate Amazon as much as is humanly possible, thats not what is happening, though.

Denis villaneuve is directing the movie and has stated that he is isnt looking for a new james bond until dune 3 is finished.

Also, fwiw, barb sat on the IP for no good reason. She was probably looking for a buyer, because a new Bond movie should have happened 2.5ish years ago.

Barbara no longer controls the creative IP.

[–] greyfox@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I thought James Bond is special though? The family still gets to approve the script, so the issue is that Amazon wants to milk it with a crap story, and the family says no this isn't good enough.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Negative, barbara broccoli sold the creative rights to Amazon.

[–] greyfox@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah looks like you are right. Appears that they just got control of it in Feb.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Yeah.

Imo it fuckin sucks. We will never again get a media mogul like Eliot Carver ever again.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So Amazon sits on the IP because Bezos doesn't get his way

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago

This is incorrect.

See other comment.

Or if they demand changes, which usually comes with the territory of the person writing the checks.
