When did you play Half-Life 1, and have you not played Portal 2? You can also not enjoy games without resorting to conspiracy theories like "no one actually played them".
Probably didn't play Alex either. Mostly sounds like someone that just wants to be contrarian.
tbf Alyx was probably played by way less people because of the hardware requirements.
I can safely say that those hardware requirements were a necessary evil to get the one of a kind experience from it though. Even if you use a mod to play it on a flat screen, it isn't the same at all.
I'm not criticising, but it is hurdle.
Oh for sure. I'm just a fan of the VR magic :)
That was the game that made me a believer. I played it on an OG Quest (on a 3090) and then immediately bought an Index.
VTOL VR is a really good example of how to do controls/UI in VR (and a fun flight sim if you're into that kind of thing but don't have DCS-level attention span)
Alyx on a good graphics card with a good headset will make you understand what VR could possibly become.
The first time your brain clicks from 'I'm looking at a video screen in a headset' to 'I'm standing in a sewer' is pretty staggering.
God, fighting Jeff and having to cover my mouth is an experience I'll never forget.
The sewer was a really good sequence. Flashlights in the darkness really hits different in VR. The fungus growing on the walls also looked amazing.
VTOL VR is another good VR experience. It's not a AAA game, but it does a really good job of using VR to make you feel like you're there (in this case, in the cockpit of various fictional aircraft). People joke that it's VR DCS for people on a budget.
How are the controls for VTOL? vr controllers, m+k, controller?
I have 2 joystick lying around somewhere from playing Star Citizen years ago. Too bad I don't have a throttle.
The standout thing about it is that all of the controls in the game are virtual and it's designed to be play with only VR controls.
Having arms on your chair makes it easy to grab the sticks without looking but the grab zones are very forgiving for the sticks).
There's a mech game that looks similar called Iron Rebellion but I haven't tried it yet.
