It's from Watchmen.
Pagliacci:
A man goes to the doctor. He says "my life feels devoid of purpose. I can't feel joy anymore. Everything I hear is bleak and scary" the doctor says, "don't worry chum. The circus is in town tonight. Go see the clown pagliacci " the man responds: "but doctor, I am pagliacci "
