right you are... which is why I see no way out of this for Americans without a civil war

there can be no reasonable negotiation when one part says "let's negotiate" and the other one says "no, you die or we kill you, end of discussion"

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The huge problem here, is a bunch of people who arent maga, will refuse to fight together, making any civil war a trivial win for the magas who are ready to fall in line.

Here we are on a decentralized platform filled with idealists who literally hate any other leftists or center people who don't align with them 99.99999% on every single issue under the sun.

Division is often a bullshit word to encourage compromising with those that cannot be compromised with. Its super fucking relevant here though.

The infighting will mean an instant loss.

Then the fascists will win and implode if left along long enough... or the remainder of the non-MAGA crowd will finally fall in line to oppose them

Thats not what happened in Germany. They seemed to be picking up steam until outer forces stopped them, and the 50%ers fell in line with the nazi regime.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Part of why Germany kept invading places was to spur on their failing economy with the plunder they got from conquered regions...

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Absolutely. You have to remember though, that this is once they had full control and almost completely eliminated certain demographics.

This is not a win state.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

and of course that means this is the only outcome possible?

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No one said it did, but it seems very likely, because where is the noteworthy resistance?

Currently people are just protesting, but the vices are clamping down.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I believe people protest now because they have some morals and see where this is going, I would expect more once they are actually personally affected

The USA has lived under a "fuck you, got mine" culture for decades, it'll take some personal harm to undo it

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The problem is that if you wait until you are affected, that allows for the old proverb of "first they came for..."

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

exactly the reason the USA fell... most people (most including the MAGA idiots) thought or still think the "bad stuff" is not going to be directed at them

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

More than that, any negotiation with a side whose primary goal is to hurt outsiders, especially marginalized people, will be to weaken yourself (by sacrificing some demographic) in the hopes that they don't continue to attack your newly weakened self.

That's an optimistic point of view. I think world war 3 is far more likely. Trump has been testing the waters internationally with the talk about invading Greenland. He wants to invade Poland, if you know what I mean.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's an optimistic point of view

It absolutely isn't. Civil war is kind of a bad thing. Assuming ww3 is a reality is a particularly pessimistic pov

Pretty sure a US civil war would bring in a bunch of other countries at this stage. Possibly more like Europe before WW2, since a civil war here seems likely to smart with an invasion of red state national guard in a blue state, then California/cascadia fighting back maybe?

And Russia or China would potentially be helping the right, or at least stirring the pot to make it worse for us all. They might help fund the obvious loser to keep it going and more permanently damage the country. China would want to wreak California to finish off the Tech oligarchs so they can dominate that I’d assume.

Then would Europe come help out blue states, they seem happy with Mamdai’s win and policies, but probably wouldn’t want to be a part of it until MAGA or its allies attack them (like Pearl Harbor). Canada would have to join the blue states pretty early on or they wouldn’t last long.

civil war in the usa will be needed… it does not cancel wwiii

the are not mutually exclusive options
