You could be right. But that's why we vote. And as someone who grew up idolizing capitalism, it is an abject failure. And now, the choice is either socialism or mafia state.
How can you possibly fuck up this idiom this badly? Doesn't translate well to your native tongue?
You put that in quotes but no one has ever said this while meaning what you're implying.
So you're saying that because socialism has never been tried in this country it has failed?
By that logic, since capitalism has been tried since the birth of the nation, would you say capitalism has been a success?
Eh, true socialism by the people has never been tried. You're probably thinking of authoritarian models, which most socialists would say are not accurate representations of socialism as they are a top-down approach.
Interestingly, there are some democratic countries (Scandinavian countries, for example) that use socialist inspired social welfare programs that are do pretty well. Universal healthcare, free education, social security, etc. These would also not be considered pure socialism, but rather mixed economies.
So I don't think it's fair to say either that socialist ideas are bad when we can see examples of them being implemented successfully, or that socialism itself is a failure when it has never been implemented in its pure form. The best you could say is that you prefer to work with the devil you know, which is a valid osition I suppose.
At least you are willing to concede that capitalism has its failures too. How would you adjust capitalism for the better?
So the new deal wasn't a thing that was approved by the majority? From memory it would have continued if Truman hadn't won the primaries over George Wallace?
Absolutely filthy ideas. A social safety net for citizens? Thats a corporate prerogative get your hands off it peasants.
Affordable housing? Won't someone think of the poor investors, they can barely afford their small fleet of yachts.
Affordable healthcare? How would the poor employers ever compel their wage slaves to work themselves to death if the alternative death sentence wasn't available.
Affordable groceries? I think you will find Trump has already solved this, if you can't afford to eat a substandard meal every 2nd day that sounds like a you problem, did you even try to be born into generational wealth.
You are so right, socialism is just plain evil. After all it's never worked anywhere that it's been left to develop without external forces doing everything they can to destabilise and delegitimise it.
As a filthy foreigner who just doesn't get why America is the way it is I wonder if you could actually conceive of how socialism would bring material benefits to you? I am just going to assume you are not part of the limited sub section of society that would "suffer" under socialism, specifically the multi-millionaire/billionaire class.
Plus a single mayor being a socialist, even a hardcore ideologically pure socialist, would bring a tiny of sliver of socialism to your capitalist hellscape, is capitalism so fragile that having that tiny enclave of barely socialism would seriously endanger it?
You ought to look up Daniel Hoan, who served as mayor of Milwaukee for 24 years. He's been ranked as one of the best mayors in U.S. history. They like him much that they named the bridge which dominates the lakefront skyline for him.
