It is also worth noting that you can find contra arguments for nearly every complex event happening and that history is written by the victors. I am sure the Incas and Mayans also "freely" converted to Christianity under the Spanish. The fact is that religion is a very difficult thing to eradicate to this degree without significant violence and discrimination.

Regarding the Nubians. They survived invasion from the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, but under Islam, their culture was largely eradicated as a non-islamic group: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubians#%3A%7E%3Atext=The+fall+of+the+kingdom+of+Christian+Nubia+occurred+in+the+early+1500s+resulting+in+full+Islamization+and+reunification+with+Egypt+under+the+Ottoman+Empire%2C+the+Muhammad+Ali+dynasty%2C+and+British+colonial+rule.+After+the+1956+independence+of+Sudan+from+Egypt%2C+Nubia+and+the+Nubian+people+became+divided+between+Southern+Egypt+and+Northern+Sudan.

I think my main point is that Empires are usually built violence and subjugation. but when it comes to Christian and Islamic empires, they also include cultural and religions subjugation, which has destroyed many distinct and irreplaceable cultures that have existed for thousands of years prior.

... your own source notes that Nubians still exist in large numbers, and that conversion largely occurred before conquest.
