That's gotta be one of the top ten haunting songs ever written. That and his Alabama. Remember listening to it for the first time when the Harvest album came out - socked me in the guts then and still does now.

The first time I ever heard that song I was deep in the old life and it absolutely destroyed me. I learned it but couldn't bring myself to perform it.

I feel like after all these years its OK to play it again.

Yeah, feels. Maybe think of it as a Rite of Passage - a ceremony that shuts the door on an old life and opens the door to a new one. Traditionally accompanied by much music and good food and celebrations in general. An open mike seems to me to be a suitable venue. Let us here know when and we'll come and celebrate with you.

That's a good perspective. Its the end of my tenth sober year as well which is a milestone.
